ST. LOUIS — Missouri Baptist Women's Lacrosse took care of business on Wednesday (March 27) with a 22-6 Heart of America Conference win over St. Ambrose University.
Eight different goal scorers stepped up for the Spartans. The usual suspects scored first, with Olivia Julian recording two and Mack Miller recording one, quickly making the score 3-0.Â
St. Ambrose quickly closed the gap, tying the game 3-3 at the end of the first period.Â
The Spartans found new life in the second quarter, leaving the Bees scoreless.Â
Julian recorded a goal just under a minute into the period, followed by a loose ground ball pick up from Marissa Oldham who took it straight to cage for an electric fast break goal.Â
The next Spartan goals were scored in the order as follows:
- Julian (free position goal)
- Oldham (FPG)
- Lydia Cornett (FPG)Â
- Lily Clepper
- Julian
- CornettÂ
- Miller (assisted by Cornett)Â
With their performance in the second quarter, Missouri Baptist made the score 12-3 going into the second half.Â
Right off the rip, Cornett scored in the third period off an assist from Miller.Â
The dynamic duo gave the Bees déjà vu, repeating Cornett's goal off Miller's assist just about four minutes later.
Finally, SAU was able to sneak in another goal, but MBU's KJ Bonenberger put an end to their short-lived celebration with her first goal of the season, assisted by Madison Terrell.Â
Terrell wanted in on the fun, too, scoring the first of what would be four goals on the day soon after Bonenberger.Â
Cornett then scored her fourth goal of the game off another free position attempt, bringing the score to 17-4 at the end of the period.Â
Terrell scored two more at the top of the fourth quarter, followed by a goal from Kiersten Lang, assisted by Cornett.Â
The Bees kept stinging, though, scoring two consecutive goals.Â
With two minutes left in the game, Julian and Terrell each scored another, solidifying their 22-6 victory over SAU.Â
