ST. LOUIS — On Saturday (March 29) the Missouri Baptist University women's lacrosse team fell to second-ranked Benedictine College. The underdogs stayed within four goals of their Heart of America Conference rivals until the second half.
The Ravens scored the first two goals of the contest, but Mack Miller scored the first for the Spartans about three minutes later.
Lydia Cornett tied the game up, scoring her first of what would be five goals on the day. Benedictine put another one up on Missouri Baptist, but Delaney Pechnick took the lead for MBU off an assist from Cornett with nine seconds left in the first period.
Cornett put the Spartans two goals ahead of Benedictine at the beginning of the second quarter, but the Ravens did not allow this for long, scoring six consecutive goals shortly after.
The score being 9-5 going into the third period, Alexis Taylor quickly scored a scrappy goal for the Spartans just under a minute into the half.
Benedictine went on a four goal run after this, leaving Miller to be the only Spartan to score in the third.
The Ravens scored two more before the end of the period, bringing the score to 15-7 going into the fourth.
Cornett scored first in the fourth quarter. Followed by three goals from Benedictine. Cornett closed the game with a thrilling eight meter shot with 27 second left in the game.
