UPLAND, Ind. – No. 19 Missouri Baptist University volleyball is set to take on the Amber McClure Fayerweather Tournament hosted by Taylor University beginning on Friday, Aug. 29. The Spartans play two on Friday and two on Saturday, playing No. 14 Mount Vernon Nazarene University and a pair of teams receiving votes.
They head into the tournament at 5-1 after
NAIA National Attacker of the Week,
Gabi Jakubowska, and the
Heart of America Athletic Conference Defender of the Week,
Fernanda Perini, led upset victories over No. 3 Corban University, No. 9 St. Thomas University, and No. 16 Viterbo University.
They finished off the week with sweeps over Wilberforce University (Ohio) and Harris-Stowe State University.
Jakubowska and
Allana Capella lead the attack with 5.00 and 2.71 kills per set, respectively. Perini leads the defense at the net with 24 total blocks. At the service line, Capella, Jakubowska, and
Mary Potteiger have combined for 30 aces in six matches.
On Friday, the Spartans take on (RV) Indiana Tech at 10 a.m. (CT) and end the day against the University of Saint Francis (Ill.), at 3 p.m. (CT). On Saturday, Aug. 30, they play the host (RV) Taylor University at 8:30 a.m. (CT), and finish up against No. 14 Mount Vernon Nazarene University at 11 a.m. (CT).
