LIMA, Ohio – The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team ended the match against (RV) University of Northwestern Ohio in a draw of 3-3 on Wednesday afternoon. The Spartans continued pressing on offense, converting three of their attempts into goals.
Six-foot senior Keegan Ranney buried a penalty kick just 10 minutes into the match, putting the Spartans ahead 1-0.
The Racers' persistence paid off at 23:10 when Josh Pearson scored to tie the game 1-1.
Ranney continued to work as he assisted Anel Tahirovic, only two minutes later, to help put the Spartans back in the lead.
The Racers came out aggressively in the second half, testing the MBU back line with wave after wave of attacks. UNOH fired 14 shots after the break, bringing their total to 20 for the match as they pushed for the equalizer. The Racers surged ahead with two goals after halftime, appearing to put the game out of reach.
The Spartans, however, had one last response. With just under two minutes to play, Adel Smajlovic found himself with an opening and drove a shot past the UNOH keeper, leveling the score at 3-3.
The Spartans will return home and are set to host Culver-Stockton College on Saturday, Sept. 13, at 7 p.m. at Spartan Field.
