ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team secured a decisive shutout victory Saturday night, defeating Culver-Stockton College 3-0. MBU stayed aggressive on offense throughout the match, consistently creating chances and keeping the pressure on with shot after shot.
The Spartans kept the pressure on offensively, and it paid off with three goals, finding the back of the net.
Just two minutes before halftime, Anthony Coppotelli broke through with his first goal of the season.
MBU came out of halftime looking sharp on offense. Although the Spartans only managed four shots in the second half, Simon Olle connected with Anel Tahirovic on a header to the back right corner of the net.
Culver-Stockton managed just five shots all night, with only one on target. Goalkeeper Evan Baisch handled it cleanly, recording the save and securing his second win of the season behind the pipes.
In the 57th minute, Jake Champion capitalized on a penalty kick, burying the Spartans' third and final goal of the match.
The victory marks MBU's first win in the Heart of America Athletic Conference play. The Spartans will look to build on the momentum as they continue conference action against William Woods University (Mo.) on Wednesday, Sept. 17, at 7:30 p.m.
