ST. LOUIS - The Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team came up short in its latest match, falling to No. 19 Cumberland University on Wednesday afternoon, 8-1.
The Spartans battled throughout the contest but were unable to overcome an early deficit. The Phoenix capitalized on scoring opportunities in both halves, while MBU struggled to break through offensively and defensively.
Missouri Baptist registered four shots, with two on goal, while CU finished with 29 shots and 18 on target. Paige Rice produced the Spartans' one goal at 28:13 in the first half with Anna White on the assist. In the first half, goalkeeper Hannah Miller made six saves for the Spartans. During the second half, Jordyn Maryas generated four saves.
MBU will look to bounce back in its next game against Culver-Stockton College at Spartan Field on Saturday at 4 p.m.
