Spartans Outshoot William Woods, Finish in 1-1 Draw

FULTON, Mo. – The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team battled William Woods University (Mo.) to a 1-1 draw Wednesday night. Both sides struck in the first half to even the score before heading into a defensive stalemate in the second. Despite several opportunities, neither team was able to break the deadlock after halftime.

The Owls struck first, finding the back of the net about 25 minutes into the match.

MBU kept pressing on offense, firing nine shots in the first half. Their persistence paid off when Anthony Coppotelli, assisted by Jake Champion, netted the equalizer.

Although the second half remained scoreless, the Spartans generated six shots and earned two corner kicks.

The Spartans closed out the match with six corner kicks and 15 total shots, including 11 on frame, while goalkeeper Sean Stone came up big with two key saves in the net.

MBU will continue its conference play against Grand View University on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 7 p.m.
