ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University women's tennis earned its first win of the 2025 season Saturday, defeating Truman State University 5-2 at CBC Cadet Park.
The Spartans took two of three doubles matches to claim the opening point. Mariana Azevedo and Lucia Rubio teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 2 doubles, while Jocelynn Carmody and Bissola Lassissi clinched the point with a 7-5 victory at No. 3.
In singles, MBU secured four wins to put the match away. Yvonne Shannon (6-3, 7-5) picked up a straight-set win at No. 1, and Carmody rolled to a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3. Rubio clinched the match at No. 2 with a 10-7 third-set super-tiebreak victory, before Melissa Jangarasheva followed with a 10-8 third-set win at No. 4 to make it 5-2.
Missouri Baptist (1-1) returns to action Sept. 18 for a scrimmage at Maryville University. First serve is scheduled for 2 p.m.
