FULTON, MO. — The Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team picked up a 3-1 win over William Woods University on Wednesday afternoon, fueled by a strong offensive performance and a solid defensive stand in the second half.
Natalie Gum opened the scoring at 16:05 with a shot inside the box, giving the Spartans an early lead. Two minutes later, Gabbie Wood slipped it right by the goalie after a pass across from Addisyn Sopczak, doubling the advantage before halftime.
Before the break, the Owls cut the deficit to 2-1 after a quick goal from Megan Hughes before the end of the half. In the second half, Sopczak came back and closed the door on the Owls after one last firing goal from twenty yards out at 67:42.
Jordyn Maryas picked up the win, making four saves to improve her record to 1-0-0 with a .818 save percentage.
The win improved the Spartans to 2-5-1, while the Owls dropped to 1-5-1. MBU will next face Grandview at home on Saturday, Sept. 20, at 4 p.m.
