ST. LOUIS – No. 10 Missouri Baptist University dropped a four-set battle to (RV) Lindsey Wilson University on Saturday morning at the Petty SRC, falling 25-17, 23-25, 22-25, 27-29.
The Spartans (15-4) jumped ahead with a dominant first set, hitting .333 behind five kills from
Allana Capella and four from
Madison Moore. Lindsey Wilson (16-4) answered in the second, holding off a late MBU rally to even the match 25-23, then edged the Spartans in the third behind balanced scoring from Petra Fernandez and Ola Wyrzykowska.
The fourth set went down to the wire with 13 ties, but the Blue Raiders closed it out 29-27, taking four of the final five points.
Capella finished with 11 kills and three aces, Moore added 11 kills, and
Fernanda Perini hit .500 with 10 kills.
Kassie Lee chipped in five kills and four blocks.
Julia Reis Pereira led the defense with 15 digs and three aces, while setters
Nina Cillo and
Tiia Heikkinen handed out 15 assists each.
MBU hit .191 as a team with 12 aces and nine blocks, while Lindsey Wilson countered with 11 aces and nine blocks.
The Spartans have another non-conference match on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at 6 p.m., in the Conway Clash at Maryville University.
