Spartans Held Off the Scoreboard Despite Strong Performance

ST. LOUIS – The Missouri Baptist University men's soccer team lost a 0-1 game to Harris-Stowe State University on Wednesday, Sept. 3. The Spartans applied pressure in the final minutes of the contest but were denied by a stellar performance from the Hornets' goalkeeper.

The Spartans controlled possession throughout the match, firing off nine shots on goal. HSSU's goalkeeper, Matheus Pereira da Silva, kept the Hornets in contention with a strong defensive showing, recording nine saves.

Although MBU came up short, the Spartans kept their offense active by generating seven corner kicks but were unable to capitalize for a goal.

Sean Stone ended the match with a .667 save percentage and two saves.

The Missouri Baptist will play RV Benedictine College (Kan.) at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Sept. 6, at Spartan Field.
