MARSHALL, MO. – Missouri Baptist University women's basketball picked up a solid road victory on Wednesday night, edging Missouri Valley College 65–63 after a back-and-forth battle that featured 11 lead changes and came down to late free throws.
Abigail Williams led the Spartans with 20 points and sealed the win at the free-throw line in the final seconds, while Riley Jansen added 18 points.
Missouri Baptist set the tone early, attacking the paint and shooting nearly 50 percent from the field for the game. The Spartans built a small halftime edge before the Vikings answered with a strong third quarter behind outside shooting, briefly pushing their lead to 10.
The fourth quarter turned into a grind, with neither team able to pull away. The Spartans leaned on interior scoring and defensive stops down the stretch, regaining the lead at 57–56 with under three minutes to play. Williams converted multiple free throws late to keep the Spartans in front. Missouri Valley hit a final three-pointer with one second remaining before a Spartan timeout to advance the ball, and a quick inbound that completed the game.
Missouri Baptist looks to build on the momentum from the upset as it continues this road stretch. They will head to MidAmerica Nazarene University on Saturday. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m.
