Women’s Wrestling Struggles Against D2 Opponent

ST. LOUIS, Mo. - Women's Wrestling competes at home in their second dual of the young season. Their opponent, nationally ranked Division 2 squad Quincy University, prevailed, defeating the Spartans 37-11.

De'yton Young was a standout performer for MBU, pinning her opponent within the first period. Before the pin, Young performed two takedowns and a reversal to her opponent, a dominant showing overall. At 110, Young was able to tie the dual up at 5-5 early.

At 180, Lexington Johnson continued her stellar freshman season with another victory, this time against a No. 5-ranked grappler in Region 5 of the NCAA. Johnson immediately scores within the first second of the match with a strong takedown to get scoring started. About twenty seconds later, she scores on another takedown to take an early 4-0 lead. The pace slows for a bit before Johnson is able to land her third takedown, followed by a double leg as the final seconds tick off the first. The four-point play secures the technical fall for the St. Charles product, securing another four points for MBU.

The dual saw a trio of exhibition matches following the conclusion of all 10 weight class bouts. Lillian Hackworth, the senior out of Wentzville, Missouri, made her season debut.

The Spartans will set their sights on Saturday, when they travel to Georgia for a dual against No. 4 Life University.
