ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist University men's volleyball dropped a four-set match to Dordt University on Friday night, falling 25-23, 25-21, 21-25, 25-17.
Nikos Faoutas led the Spartans offensively with 15 kills on .265 hitting, adding four digs and a service ace. Isaac Allgeyer followed with 13 kills, while Johnathan Kreke recorded 10 kills along with three total blocks.
Missouri Baptist came out aggressively in the opening set, hitting .316 as a team and battling back from an early deficit to pull within one late. The Spartans trimmed the margin to 24-23 before Dordt secured the final point to take the frame.
The second set remained competitive, with Kreke hitting .571 and Allgeyer with six kills, providing key swings to keep Missouri Baptist within striking distance. The Spartans hit .281 in the set, but Dordt used a late run to build a 2-0 match lead.
Missouri Baptist responded in the third, holding the Defenders to a .108 hitting percentage. The Spartans used a mid-set push to gain separation and closed out the 25-21 victory, extending the match. In the fourth, Dordt regained control, hitting .333 while limiting the Spartans to .057. The Defenders pulled away midway through the set and closed out the match.
Josh Kaemmerer dished out 34 assists to pace the Spartan offense, while Aj Tufuga added five kills and four blocks. As a team, Missouri Baptist recorded 55 kills with a .206 hitting percentage.
Missouri Baptist moves to 1-4 overall and 1-3 in conference play and will look to regroup quickly as they face the Mustangs Saturday afternoon. First serve is set for 1 p.m.
