The Missouri Baptist University men's golf team took first in the MBU Spring Invitational on Tuesday, April 14, at Spencer T. Olin Golf Course in Alton, Illinois.
After two rounds of play, Missouri Baptist and William Penn tied at 608 (+32) to force a sudden-death playoff. The Spartans sent
Will Dugal and
Luke Gardner, the highest scorers, to play the additional hole. Both golfers shot a birdie to secure the overall win—the team's second of the season.
Gardner led MBU with a third-place finish at 146 (+2). He opened with a 75 in the first round, landing four birdies on the 6,963-yard course. In round two, he bounced back with a 71 (-1), highlighted by an eagle on the 18
th hole.
Five additional Spartans finished in the top 20, including Dugal at sixth with a 153 (+9).
Pedro Cordova followed in seventh at 154 (+10).
William Bomkamp shared a four-way tie for ninth at 155 (+11), and
Kaden Kaimann and
Logan Malott each shot 158 (+14) to tie five others for 17
th.
The Missouri Baptist University women's golf team finished fourth overall at 176 over par.
GG Rogers led the Spartans with a 173 (+29) to tie for eighth.
The MBU women travel to Booneville, Missouri, for the CMU Invitational on Thursday, April 16, at Hail Ridge Golf Course.
The men pick up on Monday, April 20, at the MVC Spring Invite in Marshall, Missouri, at Indian Foothills Golf Course.
