Jamie Martin joined the Missouri Baptist University football staff in 2026, bringing a decorated playing career and extensive coaching background to the Spartans' program.
Martin adds experience at the collegiate, professional, and prep levels, with a resume that includes quarterback development, offensive strategy, and program leadership.
He comes to MBU after spending the 2025 season with the Weber State coaching staff as an offensive analyst. A program legend and Hall of Fame member, Martin assisted with offensive planning and quarterback development after spending the previous two seasons as the head coach of the Ogden Jets, a post-prep school football team.
Martin also spent 10 seasons as the Offensive Coordinator at Parkway West High School, from 2009-2019.
Before entering the coaching ranks, Martin authored one of the most accomplished playing careers in Weber State and Big Sky Conference history. He played quarterback for the Wildcats from 1989–92, earning two All-America honors and two Big Sky Conference MVP awards. He helped rewrite the school's record books and brought national recognition to the program.
Martin remains Weber State's all-time leader in total offense and ranks fifth in Big Sky history with 12,287 career yards. He is also second in conference history in career passing yards and threw 87 touchdowns during his Wildcat career.
In 1991, Martin won the Walter Payton Award, presented annually to the top player in Division I-AA/FCS football. He is the only player in Weber State history to receive the honor and one of just 10 players from the Big Sky Conference to earn the award. That season, he led the nation in passing yards and total offense, throwing for more than 4,000 yards and 35 touchdowns. He also set a school record that still stands with 624 passing yards in a single game, the second-most in Big Sky history.
When his collegiate career concluded in 1992, Martin held 14 Big Sky single-game, season or career passing records. He guided the Wildcats to their second NCAA playoff appearance in 1991 and finished his career as the Division I-AA all-time leader in passing yards and total offense.
Following his college career, Martin spent 16 seasons in the National Football League. He appeared in 53 career games with the St. Louis Rams, Jacksonville Jaguars, and New Orleans Saints, providing depth, experience, and leadership at quarterback.
Martin's legacy at Weber State has been recognized with numerous honors. He was inducted into the Weber State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000 and the Big Sky Conference Hall of Fame in 2023. In 2014, he was ranked ninth on the Big Sky's list of the 50 Greatest Male Athletes of all time and became the first athlete in Weber State history, in any sport, to have his jersey retired.
