The Missouri Baptist University women's soccer team shocked the NAIA's seventh ranked McKendree Lady Bearcats in a 3-2 American Midwest Conference victory in St. Louis on Friday. The loss was the first of the season for the Lady Bearcats.
The Lady Bearcats struck first, scoring just 12 seconds into the game.MBU had few possessions and no control of the game throughout the first half.
The second half saw a different Lady Spartan squad take the field. They had more possessions and controlled the majority of the second half of play. MBU dominated, scoring three unanswered goals and dominated the game. With fewer than ten minutes to play, McKendree picked up the pressure, and score its second goal.
"We started the game behind the 8
th ball and had a terrible first half, said MBU Head Coach
Deno Merrick. "Our never die attitude during the second half brought us the victory over one of our strongest rivals in the AMC. We always know that playing against MCK will be a hard fought game and we enjoy the atmosphere that comes with it. We look forward to playing them again in the playoff."
The Lady Spartans improve to 4-4 overall, 3-1 in the AMC. McKendree falls to 10-1-1, 5-1 in the AMC. MBU will now travel to Oklahoma Wesleyan University on October 5 in non-conference play.
