Fenton, Mo.- After a tough loss to McKendree University the Missouri Baptist women's soccer team wanted to overlook that loss and get a strong conference win over Hannibal-LaGrange. The team had a 2-0 lead in the second half, but let it slip away and lost the game 3-2 in the second overtime.
One of the most exciting games on the year both teams had good scoring chances and were playing tough defense. The Spartans had a corner kick in the 42nd minute that went off the crossbar and bounced back into play that was bicycle kicked in by Sarah O'Donnell to make it 1-0 at halftime.
The action picked up in the second half. Missouri Baptist was able to extend their lead to 2-0 on a spin around goal by Courtney Young in the 53rd minute. The Lady Trojans got back into the game in the 74th minute when Fernanda Miaci got behind the Spartans defense and was able to beat MBU's goalie Kekua Lupton making it 2-1. The game became all tied 2-2 in the 81st minute on a goal by Fernanda Miaci her second of the day.
The Spartans dominated the first overtime with six scoring chances. However, they were unable to put one into the back of the net. The Lady Trojans were able to end the game in the second overtime on a goal by Katelyn Fray to make it a final 3-2.
Missouri Baptist outshot Hannibal-LaGrange in the game 27-24. Kekua Lupton made 12 saves for the team.
The team's record moves to 5-10 on the year, 3-3 in the American Midwest Conference and will head on the road to William Woods University on October 25th at 5:00 p.m.
