SPARTANS WOMEN'S SOCCER TIE WILLIAMS WOODS

Fulton, Mo.- The Missouri Baptist women's soccer team wanted to get a key conference win after losing their previous game to Hannibal-LaGrange in double overtime. The team was able to come back and tie the game 1-1 in the second half but that would be all the scoring after 110 minutes of play.

Both teams were looking for a conference win that would be able to help them in the American Midwest Conference Standings. William Woods was able to score first on a goal by Kelsey Sanders to make it 1-0. Missouri Baptist kept their chances up but was unable to even the score in the first half.

The Spartans came alive in the second half with their offense but were unable to capitalize on their chances. MBU's Courtney Young changed that as she tied the game 1-1 by beating William Woods goalie Kelly Abernathy to force overtime.

After two exciting overtimes neither team was able to net the game winner. The Spartans were outshot in the game 14-7. Missouri Baptist goalie Kekua Lupton made nine saves on the evening.

The team will look to get a road win when they head to Benedictine College on October 27th, 2011 at 4:00 p.m.
