Springfield, Ill.- After having their last two games go into double overtime, the Missouri Baptist women's soccer team wanted to end the game against Benedictine in regulation. The team scored four goals in the first half and added three more in the second to win 7-1.
The Spartans had beat the Bulldogs earlier in the year and were wanting add another conference win. The team got on the scoreboard early in the 8th minute on a goal by
Sarah O'Donnell to make it 1-0. In the 10th minute
Melissa Schnettler scored to extend the lead to 2-0.
The offensive scoring continued in the 21st minute on a goal by
Sarah O'Donnell her second of the day to make it 3-0. MBU's
Ashley Burton got the final goal before half in 33rd minute.
Missouri Baptist continued its scoring frenzy day in the second half. Benedictine tried to get back into the game when Presley Kerber scored to make it 4-1. However,
Melissa Schnettler added her second of the day for the Spartans in the 52nd minute to make it 5-1.
The team went on to add two more goals in the second half on goals by
Courtney Young in the 70th minute and
Carly Hampel in the 83rd minute to make it a final 7-1. The Sparatns outshot the Bulldogs 14-12 in the game.
Kekua Lupton made three saves for MBU.
The team's conference record moves to 5-3-1 and will look to add a home conference win against Park University on November 1st at 3:00 p.m
