COLUMBIA, Mo. - The Missouri Baptist women's tennis team notched another victory on Wednesday afternoon as the team beat the Stephens College Stars, 5-4.
Missouri Baptist (6-6) needed a big victory on Wednesday to get back to .500 on the season. Thanks to several standout performances, the team succeeded.
The Spartans took a 2-0 lead heading into singles play with solid doubles victories. Hannah Wadlow and Megan Brendel teamed at number two doubles to win 8-1. At the same time, the team of Nicole Zevlever and Sheena Payton found similar success. The number three team also won 8-1, giving MBU the advantage.
In singles, Elise Beckenmeier, Niki Riddle and Hannah Wadlow dropped courts one through three respectively. As the Stars took a 4-2 lead, the match was squarely on the shoulders of Brendel, Zevlever and Payton.
Both Brendel and Zevlever were impressive in straight set victories leaving Sheena Payton to battle in a pro set for the win. The sophomore from St. Louis played great at the number six position, besting Stephens' Emily Mendoza at the number six position to take home the Spartan victory.
Missouri Baptist will travel to Missouri Valley College over the weekend to take on the Vikings before returning home for the final match of the regular season
