SPARTANS FALL SHORT IN COMEBACK AT JOHN BROWN

SILOAM SPRINGS, Ark.- After being shutout the previous night against Rogers State, the Missouri Baptist men's soccer team looked to earn their first win on the young 2012 season against John Brown University. The Golden Eagles early goals in the first and second half, led the team to a 3-1 win.

JBU came out with a goal in the ninth minute, off the foot of Luke Theimer to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead. The Spartans fended off an offensively quick footed John Brown team that forced 12 shots in the first half, to Missouri Baptist four shots.

Just thirty seconds into the second half, midfielder Ryan Duncan scored what turned to be the game winner for JBU, pushing the lead to 2-0. In the 57th minute, Theimer added his second of the game, extending their lead to 3-0 putting the Spartans on their heels. MBU continued to battle, with the hard work paid off as senior forward Danny Traylor scored his and the teams first goal on the season unassisted in the 76thminute.

The team picked up the offense in the second half totaling eight shots, however, it was the Golden Eagles holding on for the victory. Traylor was a threat all game, forcing eight shots with three of them landing on goal. Junior goalie Ethan Brunk made nine saves on the day.

The Spartans record falls to 0-2, but will look to continue to make strides and get a win in front of the home crowd on August 28th against Trinity International University. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
