SPARTANS SET SCHOOL RECORD WITH 14 GOALS IN VICTORY

ST. LOUIS, Mo- What a day it was for the Missouri Baptist women's soccer team, as the Spartans put on an offensive showcase shutting out Stephens College for the 14-0 victory.

The 14 goals are a school record for the Spartans, whom faced a Stephens College team that was playing their first game in the American Midwest Conference. The previous record for most goals in a game was in 2009, when the Spartans defeated Harris-Stowe 8-0 twice.

In the first half, the team totaled 25 shots scoring eight goals. Lauren Clinton was busy on the offensive end in the match totaling nine shots, eight of which landed on goal. In the second half, it was the same story as the Spartans scored six more times for the overwhelming victory. There were 12 different Missouri Baptist players that scored a goal, led by Megan Huffman and Kristen Neal who scored two goals each.

Also scoring one goal during the game was Lauren Clinton, Amy Guarino, Anna Recer, Melissa Patchin, Brieanna Nickles, Jessica Pollard, Samauri Williams, Melissa SchnettlerElizabeth Kahn and Sam Schulze.

The Spartans defense played well and were able to hold Stephens to zero shots on the afternoon, while Missouri Baptist kept Stephens goalie Kristen Izzett busy as the team totaled 38 shots on the afternoon, 19 of which landed on goal.

Coach Deno Merrick was proud of his team responding after two tough losses and starting off conference play on with a victory. "The win was a good start to conference play. We know we will have a much tougher task against Columbia next week, but we were able to improve and build upon the attacking half of our game." said Merrick.

Coach Merrick was also impressed with his bench performance. "Everyone played very well today and the bench played a much bigger part than usual. We are looking forward to pushing on in the conference." said Merrick. The bench for Missouri Baptist totaled four goals and 10 shots.

The team extends their record to 4-6 and will be back in action next week when the team heads to Columbia College on September 25th. Kick-off is set for 5:00 p.m.
