ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist women's tennis suffered a tough loss on Tuesday at the hands of the Webster University Gorlocks in an 8-1 loss.
Missouri Baptist began the match in a 3-0 hole after dropping all three of its doubles matches, but the team picked-up the pace in singles. Though the team picked-up just one win, two matches went to a tiebreak set.
Sheena Payton earned the lone Spartan win on the day at No. 6, with a defeat of Izzy Espinosa 7-5, 7-5. MBU also made it very interesting at Nos. 3 and 5 singles.
At No. 3, Haley Grueber lost the first set but took set two 6-3 to force the first tiebreak set of the day. Grueber went on to lose the final set 10-6. This match, however, was not nearly as close as No. 5.
Shelby Mund lost her first set 6-0 to Mackenzie Wrosr, but came roaring back to win set two 6-1, setting-up an extremely close tiebreak set. The two were nearly even, but Wrosr pulled away to pick-up a narrow 14-12 win.
The Spartans will take to the court again on Saturday when the team faces Missouri Valley College.
