ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist baseball outscored the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans 24-6 on Saturday as the Spartans completed the season sweep 14-3 and 10-3.

No. 23 Missouri Baptist (27-8, 21-3) began Saturday's doubleheader with a 20-hit performance. The Spartans scored all 14 of its runs in the first five innings of the game and all before the Trojans posted their first run of the game.

Patrick Johnson set the table for MBU all day. The shortstop went 3-6 in the game with 3 RBI and two stolen bases. Dan Harper played first and went 3-3 with one RBI and a double. In fact, seven Spartans hit .500 or better in the game.

On the mound, Nathan Utt had another solid outing. The senior threw five innings and surrendered just one earned run to notch his third conference win of the season.

In game two, Missouri Baptist delivered another big offensive effort. The Spartans took a 3-1 lead in the fourth inning, but the Trojans tied it at three in the bottom of the fifth. It was at this point MBU took full control.

Missouri Baptist posted two runs in the top of the sixth, two in the eighth and three in the ninth to finalize the 10-3 win. Mike Avila started the game for MBU and went six solid innings to earn the win.

Harper had another big game. The Spartan first baseman went 2-2 in the game with three RBI and a homerun while Ricky Pagan went 3-4 with a double and a homerun.

With the wins, MBU improved to 27-8 and 21-3 in the American Midwest Conference. Next up for the Spartans is McKendree University on Tuesday in Lebanon, Ill.
