ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist women's soccer took control of Wednesday's American Midwest Conference battle with Lindenwood-Belleville from the outset and came out on the winning end in a 2-1 victory.
Missouri Baptist (6-4-3, 6-1-1) outshot Lindenwood – Belleville 6-3 in the first half. Thirteen minutes into the game Hannah McElroy was the first to find net in the game, as she notched her second goal of the season. Heather Schneider headed the ball into the back of the net off a corner kick by Hannah McElroy to record the winning goal.
Kathryn Kessler started in net for the Spartans and shut-out the Lynx in the first set with three saves to her credit.
After the half, MBU nearly extended the lead as seven of the eleven shots in the period were slightly wide of the goal, several of which clanged off the post. Breann Shaffer was able to put a dent in the deficit for the Lynx with a goal in the 74th minute. A shot from Donna Jolliff, in effort to extend the lead, was just short of going in as if bounced off the post.
Kayla Benoit closed out the game in the net for the Spartans. Benoit held the Lynx to one goal.
The Spartans will continue it's home stand on Saturday as the team will welcome the Williams Baptist Eagles to CBC field. Game time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
