ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist women's soccer took on American Midwest Conference (AMC) opponent Harris Stowe State University (HSSU) on Wednesday. The Spartans took control from the very beginning of the game and at the end of regulation held the 8-0 lead for the shutout.
Melissa Patchin started the scoring run for Missouri Baptist (5-3-3. 4-0-1). As the game progressed MBU continued to control the game as the ball was kept on the Hornets side of the field.
Eight minutes later Mary Lee found net for the Spartans advancing the score to 2-0. Closing out the first half was Donna Jolliff with her first career hat trick, as she brought the score up to 5-0.
In the second half MBU continued to hold the Hornets as Heather Schneider continued the scoring run with her first career goal. Argell London found the net in the 69th minute which furthered the lead to 7-0. With ten minutes left in the half, Mary Lee hit the back of the Hornets net for her second goal of the game.
Kayla Benoit held the net for the Spartans. With her second win on the season, Benoit recorded her first career shutout.
As the final buzzer sounded at the end of regulation, the Spartans had sealed the win. Missouri Baptist held the Hornets to an 8-0 shutout for the second time in Spartans history. In 2009, MBU held Harris Stowe to the same score, which is also the largest lead MBU has had against HSSU.
AMC play continues, the Spartans will travel to Columba, Missouri on October 11, 2014. The team is set to take on the Columbia Cougars with a 1:00 pm start time.
