ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist baseball posted 18 runs on 17 hits on Thursday night in an 18-2 win over Indiana Wesleyan.
Missouri Baptist (5-3) looked very good from the outset and continued its offensive surge over the course of seven innings.
MBU posted three runs in the first inning and never looked back. Orlando Olivera recorded his first homerun of the season, a towering drive to left field, to put the Spartans on top 3-1 heading into the second inning.
The Spartans batted two around to score in the second, one in the third, five in the fourth and seven in the sixth to grab their fifth win in five games.
Overall, Missouri Baptist recorded six doubles in the game and four stolen bases. Ryan Clarke, serving as the courtesy runner for starting catcher Erik Garcia, swiped three bags on his own. Olivera and Dan Harper also recorded homeruns in the win
As a team, the Spartans batted .460 in the game while every position player recorded at least one hit in the game.
Brandon Zywicki got the win in the game, his second of the season. The junior recorded six strikeouts in his outing while Chris Kenney came-on in the seventh to get the final three outs. The senior finished-off the Wildcats in order to preserve the lopsided win.
Missouri Baptist will go back to work on Friday for two games to finish-off the three-game set with the Wildcats. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at GCS Ballpark in Sauget, Ill.
