ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE G1] [BOX SCORE G2] Missouri Baptist baseball found its hitting stroke yet again on Saturday. The team pounced all over Williams Baptist pitching in both games on Saturday and handed the Eagles 6-1 and 10-0 losses in the conclusion of the three-game conference series.
Missouri Baptist (18-3, 3-0 AMC) Needed just two runs on Saturday to best the Eagles thanks to a dominant performance by Brandon Zywicki. The junior tossed his second complete game of the week and gave up just one hit in the game.
Williams Baptist posted an unearned run in the first inning, but was unable to figure-out the Spartan starter from that point forward. Zywicki recorded six strikeouts on his way to his team-leading fifth win of the season.
Josh Fuentes extended his hit streak to 15 games in the first inning of this game with a double to right center.. He eventually scored in the inning on a throwing error which proved to be the game winning run.
Trevin Craig played right field and set the table for the Spartans. Craig went 2-3 with two runs scored and two RBI.
In game two, things were much more lopsided. Michael Yarborough went the distance and picked-up six strikeouts of his own to tie Zywicki for the team lead with five wins. The starter allowed just three hits in seven innings of work to preserve the team's 18th consecutive win.
Missouri Baptist posted the first runs of the game in the first inning. Fuentes belted a two-RBI triple to right field to put the Spartans on top for good.
Williams Baptist cycled through five pitchers in the game as the starter, Dalton Freshour, was relieved after giving-up three runs in the third. Nathan Thomas was the lone pitcher to appear for WBC to not give-up a run in his outing.
Eli Roundtree was outstanding for MBU in the game, getting the start at designated hitter. The Wisconsin native went 3-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
With the win, Missouri Baptist is now 3-0 in American Midwest Conference play and has taken the top spot in the AMC standings. The Spartans will now prepare for a doubleheader against Harris Stowe during the week before hosting the Park Pirates for three games next weekend.
