Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Lauren Krebs' overtime goal lifted Missouri Baptist to its second-straight win and a 4-3 victory over Central Baptist College Thursday afternoon.
The Spartans (4-8-1) needed more than 90 minutes to put away a pesky Central Baptist squad. The Mustangs entered into the game searching for their first victory of the season.
Missouri Baptist dominated Central Baptist in terms of shots 23-6, but found themselves trailing 2-1 after Tatum Gombard scored in the 53rd minute.
The two teams were tied 1-1 at halftime, in a half the Spartans outshot the Mustangs 10-2. Peyton Turner found the net in the 4th minute for Central Baptist and Taylor Giese tied the game in the 37th minute for Missouri Baptist.
Giese made the Central Baptist lead a brief one by scoring yet again in the 58th minute. Donna Jolliff was around the net all afternoon and gave the Spartans a 3-2 lead when she headed in a cross from Megan Allen. Jolliff had three earlier shots in the half and finally got one past Central Baptist goalie Kalynn Simpson.
The Mustangs didn't have many scoring chances, but scored on half of their six shot attempts. Their third and final goal came in the 71st minute when Turner scored her second goal of the game to eventually force overtime.
Turner's goal evened the score again at 3-3, setting the scene for Krebs' heroics just over four minutes into overtime.
The Spartans improved to 4-2-1 in AMC play with the victory. They will go for three straight wins when they take on St. Louis College of Pharmacy on Saturday at CBC Field.
