SPARTANS SUFFER FIRST CONFERENCE LOSS

Box Score

ST. LOUIS [BOX SCORE] – Donna Jolliff cut the lead in half with a late goal, but it wasn't enough in the Spartans 2-1 loss to Park (Mo.) University Saturday afternoon.

The Spartans (2-6-1) suffered their first conference loss of the season. Park outshot Missouri Baptist 13-9 and used an early goal in the 18th minute to take control.

Park forward Emma Chatteron struck a ball past Spartan keeper Alex Lair to put the Pirates ahead 1-0. Chatteron used a pass from Gabi Severns to help Park strike first.

Missouri Baptist recorded four shots in the opening 45 minutes, but couldn't find the net. Meanwhile, Park extended their lead early in the second half.

Off a pass from Isabel Sullivan, Severns dribbled toward the net and chipped the ball right over Lair and into the back of the net. Her team-high 12th goal of the season put the Pirates ahead 2-0.

The Spartans were held scoreless until the 84th minute when Jolliff found the net for the second time in as many games. A Park foul gave Missouri Baptist a late free kick. Jolliff capitalized on the chance by heading the ball past the Park keeper off Danielle Wilde's kick.

Despite a late push, the Spartans suffered their first loss of the conference season. Taylor Giese led Missouri Baptist with six shots.

The Spartans return to action on Wednesday against Lindenwood-Bellville. The match begins at 5:00 p.m.
