Box Score 2 ST. LOUIS – [GAME ONE BOX] [GAME TWO BOX] Missouri Baptist baseball needed a come-from-behind effort in game one on Saturday as the bats stayed hot for game two in a doubleheader sweep over the No. 1-ranked Cumberland University Bulldogs.
Missouri Baptist (9-0) put its undefeated season on the line in the final two games of a three-game series against the Bulldogs and erased a five-run deficit in game one.
Cumberland shot-out to a quick 2-0 lead after one and tacked three more on in the following two innings to make it 5-0 early. Missouri Baptist, however, came back powered by its big bats.
Orlando Olivera, Brent Zimmerman, Austyn Nagamine and Aaron Collazo all recorded two RBI in the game while all but Zimmerman recorded two hits in the contest. The Spartan shortstop made up for that in game two, however.
In the following four innings, the Spartans posted 13 unanswered runs to build a dominant 13-5 victory.
The Spartan offense got going early in game two, and it was all led by Zimmerman. The senior went 4-4 in the getaway game and recorded three doubles and a home run in those four hits.
Michael Yarborough and Randy Wynne both picked-up victories for the Spartans on the day. It was the second win of the year for Yarborough and the first for Wynne in his MBU career.
With the wins, Missouri Baptist stayed perfect on the year and will get the opportunity to defend its record next weekend at home in the Clayton Pfeiffer Memorial Tournament, sponsored by Chick-Fil-A.
