ST. LOUIS – Missouri Baptist got timely hitting in game one of a doubleheader against Bryan College on Monday, but were unable to come back in game two as the team won the first 4-3 and dropped the second by the same score.

Missouri Baptist (10-1) trailed by two after the first inning of game one on Monday, but came back to take a lead with a three-run fifth inning to give themselves a 4-2 lead. MBU gave one back to the Lions in the bottom of the sixth, but Marcus Crescentini came on to shut the door for the Spartans. The closer recorded his fourth save of the season with two strikeouts to end it.

Dave Mullins got the start in the first game. The senior tossed five innings and allowed six hits and two walks with five strikeouts.

Brent Zimmerman recorded two singles on the day in his final two at-bats while Aaron Pangilinan posted the key hit of the game. The Spartan designated hitter notched a two-run single in the fifth.

Missouri Baptist fell behind again in game two, and though it quickly recovered to take a lead, the Lions struck critical blows in the sixth and the seventh.

Randy Wynne tossed six solid innings for the Spartans, but allowed two runs on seven hits with five strikeouts to his credit.

Bryan College tied the ball game in the sixth and took a two-run lead in the top of the seventh, but MBU made a bid for a comeback. Eli Roundtree hit his team-leading third homerun to lead things off in the bottom of the inning, but the Spartans stranded the tying run at first as the team ended the day with its first loss of the season.

Missouri Baptist will head back to the diamond on Tuesday in a doubleheader against Appalachian Athletic Conference member, Milligan University. First pitch is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CST in Georgia.
