SPARTANS KEEP ROLLING WITH WINS IN HANNIBAL

ST. LOUIS, Mo. – [GAME ONE BOX] [GAME TWO BOXMissouri Baptist baseball continued its impressive 2015 campaign on Saturday with a doubleheader sweep of Hannibal-LaGrange 5-0 and 12-0.

Missouri Baptist (19-1, 5-0 AMC) extended its winning streak to nine games as it held the Trojans scoreless in both contests on the day. Over the five American Midwest Conference games the Spartans have played this season, they have allowed opponents just five runs and have posted three shutouts.

In game one, Randy Wynne went the distance and recorded five strikeouts and allowed four hits in seven full innings of work. Wynne tossed just 91 pitches in his outing.

MBU posted the game's first runs of the game on a throwing error, and was able to make it 2-0 on the next at-bat. Jeff Smith poked an RBI double into left field and added insurance to the lead.

The Spartans added one more in the fourth and two in the sixth in the team's 18th win of the year.

In game two, the Spartans continued to put-up runs beginning with a five-run first inning. Jeff Smith led-off with a single as the first three MBU batters reached with back-to-back hits. Missouri Baptist ended the inning with six hits, capped-off by Austyn Nagamine's RBI double to left-center.

MBU posted another five runs in the fourth, this time powered by Eli Roundtree. The right fielder crushed his team-leading seventh home run of the year, a three-run shot, as the Spartans took game two, 12-0.

Missouri Baptist's Smith had a big game in the final contest of the day. The starting third baseman went 3-3 with a double. Nagamine, Brent Zimmerman and Orlando Olivera also finished with two hits in the game.

Dave Mullins picked-up his fourth win of the season in game two as well. The senior has a 1.78 ERA this season.

Missouri Baptist will finish-up the series with the Trojans on Monday beginning at 3:00 p.m. in Hannibal, Mo.

 

GAME NOTES

With his seventh home run of the year, Eli Roundtree is now tied for second in the NAIA in Total Home Runs… Roundtree is averaging a home run every 2.85 games this season and one home run per every 10 at-bats… Randy Wynne and Dave Mullins became the second and third, four-game winners, in the AMC and are tied for No. 17 in the nation in wins.
