FOUR SPARTAN HOME RUNS LEAD MBU TO LOPSIDED VICTORY

Box Score

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREFour Missouri Baptist Spartans went deep on Monday while Michael Yarborough picked-up his fourth win of the year in a 15-0 victory against Hannibal-LaGrange.

Missouri Baptist (20-1, 6-0 AMC) continued its assault on American Midwest Conference pitching on Monday as the team combined for 17 hits in the contest. With the win, the Spartans completed a season sweep of the Trojans and did not allow a single HLG run to cross the plate in the series.

Missouri Baptist posted four runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings and tacked-on three more in the sixth to cruise to an undefeated 6-0 in the AMC this season.

The Spartans got started by posting two-out runs in the third. Brent Zimmerman walked and scored on a double play later in the inning to make it a 1-0 MBU lead. Just moments later, Hector Candelaria extended that advantage with a three-run shot. The Spartan catcher drove a 3-1 pitch over the wall in right to make it 4-0.

More of the same came in the fourth inning as the two-out scoring continued. Orlando Olivera hit a solo shot with two outs to make it 5-0 before Tim Cusick got into one, three batters later. The Maryland Heights, Mo., native hit his second home run of the year, a two-run knock, to go up 8-0.

Brent Zimmerman hit his third homer of the season in the fifth as the hit parade continued. The Spartans totaled four doubles on the day while five players ended with a multi-hit game.

Jacob Rhodes was especially impressive off the bench. The senior utility infielder recorded his first multi-hit game of his career after he went 2-2 at the plate with a double and a single.

Michael Yarborough looked solid once again on the mound for the Spartans. The senior went five strong innings with seven strikeouts. He allowed just three hits in the outing. Carl Jameson and Marcus Crescentini both tossed one inning of work and didn't allow a hit.

With the wins, Missouri Baptist will head into its next conference series in Springfield, Ill., to take on the Benedictine-Springfield Bulldogs. First pitch on Friday is set for 6:00 p.m. at Robin Roberts Stadium.
