Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist had another big offensive inning on Saturday as the team cruised to its 30th win of the season. The Spartans posted seven in the fourth and shut the door in the final two innings on the way to a 10-4 victory.
Missouri Baptist (30-6, 14-5 AMC) continued to put-up big numbers on Saturday as seven of the nine starters for the Spartans recorded hits in the contest.
Jeff Smith and Brent Zimmerman led-off in the first with back-to-back hits and put a runner at third as Orlando Olivera came to the plate. The left-fielder hit a sacrifice fly to post the first run of the game.
Missouri Baptist held a slim, 3-2 lead heading into the fourth inning when the Spartan offense began to hit its stride. Two walks allowed Justin Boman and Aaron Collazo to reach before Jeff Smith came to the plate. The MBU third-baseman hit a three-run home run to left field on the first pitch he saw to extend the lead to 6-3. It was Smith's seventh home run on the year, which is one shy of a career-high.
Smith finished the day 3-4 at the plate with five RBI.
Michael Yarborough got the start in the series finale and picked-up his sixth win of the season. He held the Eagles to just one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts.
Orlando Olivera has now equaled his season-high of a 13-game hit streak with his single in the fourth inning.
Missouri Baptist will now prepare for a midweek, non-conference matchup with Culver-Stockton on Tuesday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Canton, Mo.
