Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist baseball posted six home runs by three batters on Tuesday afternoon on the way to a 12-10 win over Harris-Stowe (Mo.). The six home runs tied a team record for home runs in a game set last year.
Missouri Baptist (32-8, 15-7 AMC) fought tooth and nail with the Hornets on a windy day in downtown St. Louis before jumping out front for good. The Spartans trailed 5-4 heading into the fifth and exploded for eight runs in the final five innings to take the game.
The top of the order was as potent as ever on Tuesday as Jeff Smith, Eli Roundtree and Orlando Olivera all went deep twice in the ball game. Jeff Smith led-off with a home run in the first and got things going for the Spartans. The Spartan third baseman hit number nine and 10 on the season in the game.
Roundtree and Olivera both homered before the sixth inning went back-to-back an accounted for three runs in the Spartan half to make it a 9-4 Missouri Baptist lead. The Spartans posted one run in each of the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to preserve the victory.
The first four hitters in the Missouri Baptist order accounted for 10 RBI on the day as all four batters, Smith, Brent Zimmerman, Olivera and Roundtree all finished with a multi-hit day. Just two batters were held hitless for the Spartans in the game.
Olivera's 14th home run placed the slugger third in the nation in total home runs. He has played nine less games than the two players he is tied with.
The Spartans will now gear-up for its final mid-week, non-conference game of the season tomorrow against Missouri Valley College. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. in Marshall, Mo.
