SPARTANS SUFFER BLOWOUT AT HANDS OF SCOTS

ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCOREMissouri Baptist gave-up three big innings to Lyon (Ark.) in American Midwest Conference action on Friday. The Scots posted three runs in the third, five in the fifth and three in the seventh as they rolled to a 13-6 upset over the Spartans.

Missouri Baptist (26-5, 10-4 AMC) Tyler Greer led-off the third inning and recorded the first hit of the game in a grounder through the hole at short. Issac Struense followed with a bunt, which was mishandled by Dave Mullins, and allowed Greer to third to put runners on the corners.

The Scots took full advantage of the situation as the inning progressed. Joe Campbell notched the game's first RBI single to put the Scots in front 1-0.

Kris Kohlstedt continued the inning with an RBI single of his own and made it a 2-0 game, but the Scots were not done inflicting damage. Dylan Wooten singled to the left side and posted the third run of the inning with two out and put the Spartans in a 3-0 hole after two and a half.

Lyon grabbed another run in the fourth. Tyler Greer slammed a solo home run to left center and increased the Scots' lead to four after three and a half.

The Spartans started to rally in the bottom of the fourth. After Brent Zimmerman reached on an error, Eli Roundtree recorded the first hit for Missouri Baptist on a single to right field. Aaron Pangilinan followed with a double, which scored Zimmerman, and put MBU on the board.

With runners standing at second and third, and two outs, Austyn Nagamine reached on an error by Griffin Glaude and cut the Spartan deficit to 4-2.

Lyon responded in the top of the fifth with a big hit by Glaude. The Scots shortstop doubled to left field before Wooten cashed-in on an RBI single, and before the inning was top-half was complete, the visitors had built a 9-2 lead. This lead proved to be insurmountable for Missouri Baptist, though the Spartans did put together a big bottom of the seventh.

Aaron Collazo homered in the bottom of the seventh with a shot to center field, and Brent Zimmerman followed with a one of the solo variety to the same spot with one out to make it a 13-6 game.

Orlando Olivera hit his team-leading 11th home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth. He ended the day 1-3 with an RBI, and the home run now ties him for third in the nation in Total Home Runs.

Missouri Baptist will now get set for a doubleheader against the Scots. First pitch in game one is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. at Spartan Field.
