Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Megan Allen's second-half goal lifted Missouri Baptist to a 1-0 victory over Hannibal La-Grange Wednesday afternoon.
The win for the Spartans (2-4) was their second in a row, with both wins coming against conference opponents. The loss snapped the Trojans (3-4-1) three-game winning streak.
Allen's third goal of the season took place in the 60th minute. After a Spartan entered the ball into the box, the ball deflected off the head of a Hannibal player and right to Allen.
Allen kicked the ball from the right side and tucked it inside the left post to break the scoreless tie and put Missouri Baptist ahead 1-0. She has now scored in three consecutive games.
The goal ended a long scoreless drought for both teams. The Spartans were on the attack during most of the first half, but only one of their seven shots were from inside the box. They also couldn't connect on three early shot attempts after halftime.
Goalkeeper Alex Lair pitched her first shutout of the season after saving all six shots she faced. She had missed the previous two games with injury.
Lair only needed to make one save in the first half, but recorded the rest down the final stretch when Hannibal attempted to make one last push. Half of her six saves came in the final 10 minutes.
Makenzie Hoelscher came close to padding the Spartan lead, but her shot in the 84th minute clanked off the post.
Missouri Baptist will try to win its third straight game when they take on Trinity International on Saturday. Kickoff is set for 12:00 p.m.
