Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Cassandra Willhite tallied four goals and senior Mackenzie Hoelscher added two more in Missouri Baptist's 10-0 rout of Central Baptist Saturday afternoon on Senior Day.
The Spartans honored their three seniors, Hoelscher, Lauren Krebs and Sarah O'Leary before the game and sent the seniors a pleasant memory for their final home game. Like Hoelscher, the senior Krebs also scored when she knocked in a penalty kick in the 72nd minute.
With the win, the Spartans (11-6, 9-3 AMC) secured the No. 3 seed in the upcoming AMC Conference Tournament. They will host the No. 6 seed Williams Baptist Eagles on Friday, November 4th at Tony Glavin Soccer Complex.
Willhite started the scoring early for MBU in the 5th minute when she followed her own miss off the post and kicked it into the net. Despite 26 first-half shots, Missouri Baptist only found the net one other time in the opening half when Willhite scored once again in the 36th minute to put MBU ahead 2-0. The Spartans limited Central Baptist to zero shots for the half and the game.
MBU continued to fire in shots at net in the second half and to higher success. They netted six goals as part of a huge final half that featured 23 total shots. It was the Willhite show once again and she scored in the 54th and 57th minute to earn her hat trick, plus another, both assisted on by Alyssa Matz.
The outcome never appeared in doubt on Saturday and the fun continued when the senior class made their mark on the game. Hoelscher knocked home a penalty kick in the 61st minute to score her first career goal as a Spartan and put MBU ahead 5-0. She then added another two minutes later when she kicked in a pass deep inside the box.
Krebs then earned a chance at a penalty kick and came through with the goal in the 72nd minute to put MBU ahead 7-0. Monica Robinson, Heather Wills and Megan Allen scored the final three goals for MBU in the win. The goal was Wills' first as a collegiate player.
As mentioned, the Spartans will now gear up for postseason play in the AMC Tournament. As the No. 3 seed, they will host Williams Baptist at Tony Glavin Soccer Complex.
