Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist controlled possession from beginning to end Saturday afternoon in a 3-0 win over Williams Baptist.
The Spartans (7-4, 5-1) were aided by a fast start, thanks to a 5th minute goal from freshman Riley Janvrin. Janvrin found the net for the second game in a row to put MBU quickly ahead 1-0.
The win over the Eagles helped MBU surpass its win total from a season ago. The ladies have now won three straight games and have opened conference play with five wins in six games.
The Spartans fired off several more shots throughout the half, but to no avail until the 41st minute. That's when Cassandra Willhite knocked in her first goal of the season with a shot just outside the box and into the net. MBU carried that 2-0 momentum into the second half.
The Eagles never quite posed much of a scoring chance as the Spartans outshot their opponent 32-2 on the day. Sophomore Danielle Wilde added an insurance goal in the 67th minute when she also dropped the ball over the WBU goalkeeper and into the net.
The Spartans carried the 3-0 lead to the final whistle as goalkeeper Alex Lair picked up another shutout in the process. It was the junior's fourth in five games, aided by strong play from the Spartan back line.
Wilde and Janvrin paced the offense with six shots each. The Spartans return to action on October 11th at home against Park in the AMC Game of the Week.
