Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Women's Soccer cruised into the AMC semifinals with a dominant 8-0 win over Williams Baptist Thursday afternoon at Tony Glavin Soccer Complex.
The No. 3 seeded Spartans took control from the start and outshot the No. 6 Eagles 33-4 for the match. Cassandra Willhite, coming off a four-goal performance over Central Baptist, continued her strong play with the first goal of the game in the 6th minute. She knocked in a cross from Jackie Hagan to give MBU the 1-0 lead.
An own goal by the Eagles put the Spartans ahead two goals before Riley Janvrin started her big day. The freshman recorded a hat trick in the contest, starting with her 34th minute goal. Off a rebound, she kicked in the Spartans third goal of the game and MBU took the 3-0 advantage into the break.
The Eagles, behind a loud fan section, came out much more aggressive in the second half. After lacking scoring chances early, Maria Ramirez fired off two early shots and the match was evenly played for the first 10-15 minutes.
Alexis Turner turned all the momentum back in the Spartans favor after she beat the keeper to a ball sent in by Danielle Wilde and poked it into the net. The sliding goal set the tone for the final 30 minutes, in which MBU scored all five of its second-half goals.
Janvrin followed with two consecutive goals to record her hat trick. The first came off a nice feed from Morgan Mell inside the box and the second was a header into the net off a cross from Allie Heinz. The freshman's third goal came at the 72 minute mark.
In the final minutes, Monica Robinson tallied goal number seven off a corner kick and Megan Allen knocked in the final goal thanks to Heinz's cross.
The 8-0 rout give MBU a bit of momentum going into Monday's semifinal match. They will take on the winner of No. 2 Columbia and No. 7 Lyon. If the Cougars win, the Spartans will travel to Columbia and if Lyon pulls off the upset, MBU will host the next round.
