ST. LOUIS- Missouri Baptist wrapped up their three game road series against Lyon College with a doubleheader on Saturday. After dropping game one of the day with minimal run support, the Spartan offense exploded with a 20 run performance in game two. 

Missouri Baptist (31-8, 15-3 AMC) fell in the first game, 2-1, in a low scoring affair. The Spartans struggled at the plate, only getting two hits and one run courtesy of shortstop Tim Hergert. Lyon starter Tyler Tognarine stymied the entire offense, pitching a complete game and striking out eight Spartans.

Jared Crescentini got the start for Missouri Baptist and pitched a solid four and one third innings, striking out six and only allowing two runs and two walks. However, those two runs were all the offense Lyon needed in the game as they closed out the Spartans.

Game two told a much different story. Missouri Baptist claimed a four run lead in the top of the first of its 20-5 win and never looked back. They added two runs to their lead in the top of the third before the Scots attempted a comeback. Lyon College responded with five runs in the bottom of the third to cut the lead to one.

Neither starter pitched past the third inning. Spartan starter Keven Long struggled early after giving up five earned runs in two and a third innings. However, collectively the Spartan relievers pitched a no hit shutout, silencing the Scots' bats.

After pulling their starter in the third inning, the Spartans continued their offensive dominance. Missouri Baptist scored 14 runs against the Scots' relievers, led by three RBIs each from centerfielder Brian Poupore and third baseman Culver Plant.

The Spartans continue their road trip with a double header against College of the Ozarks on Tuesday. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
