Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The Spartans were unable to generate a goal Saturday afternoon in a 6-0 loss to No. 15 Columbia College.
The loss was the first of the conference season for Missouri Baptist (4-4, 2-1), while Columbia (8-0-2, 4-0) remained undefeated in conference play. The Cougars controlled the tempo early and used their heads to get on top.
Katelyn Palmer headed a ball off a cross into the net in the 13th minute to get the scoring started. Christina Conley then added goals one minute apart from each other when she also used her head to knock in two more goals for the Cougars.
Molly Burke added the final tally of the half when she put Columbia ahead 4-0 in the 32nd minute, a lead the teams would take into halftime.
The Spartans struggled to reverse the trend offensively in the second half, as they managed just two shots in each. Burke and Tiffany Weaver added one goal each in the final half to bring things to the eventual final of 6-0.
Haley Meinhart made the start in goal and earned six saves to her name. The Spartans will now have a few days off before they take on Harris-Stowe on Thursday. The match from CBC High School is set for 11:00 am.
