Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] The No. 4 Benedictine University (Kan.) Ravens shutout Missouri Baptist 5-0 Saturday afternoon. The Ravens never let MBU get into a rhythm offensively and kept them on the defensive for most of the game.
Rosie McShane and Olivia Meyers led the charge with two goals each for Benedictine. McShane started the scoring in the 17th minute when she headed the ball into the net after Anna Romano sent the ball into the box.
Junior Haylee Eastridge worked her way into the box for a pair of shots in the first half to lead the offense for MBU. Her efforts accounted for two of three shots the Spartans managed in the first 45 minutes. BU fired off 15, including another that found the net in the 38th minute. The Ravens carried that 2-0 lead into the halftime break.
The road team continued to attack offensively in the second half. They fired off multiple shot at Spartan goalkeeper Alex Lair. The junior made several fine saves, a game-high 12 in total, but her efforts weren't enough on this day.
The Ravens were able to net three second-half goals to put the game away. MBU competed hard all over the field, but the fourth-ranked Benedictine squad proved too powerful.
Eastridge had a strong look at the net in the 74th minute when her shot was tipped just over the cross bar. Freshman Riley Janvrin nearly prevented the shutout in the final seconds, but a diving save held the 5-0 score.
The Spartans busy Labor Day weekend continues with an 11:05 game on Monday against LSU-Alexandria. That game will be played at Tony Glavin Soccer Complex.
