MISSOURI BAPTIST BATS AWAKENED IN GAME TWO AT BRYAN COLLEGE

Box Score

ST. LOUIS – [GAME 1 BOX] [GAME 2 BOXAfter running into one of the toughest pitchers it had seen in 2017, Spartan Baseball rebounded from a 5-2 loss. Brandon Schlichtig went 3-3 at the dish with two RBI in an 11-1 win over the Bryan College Lions on Friday in Dayton, Tenn.

Missouri Baptist (4-2) stumbled at the plate in game one as Lions' starter Chris Suave-Gebhardt tossed a six inning gem. He went a full six and allowed just three Spartan hits and two runs with five strikeouts.

The Spartans were down by just a run after four innings when the Lion bats went to work. Two walks, a stolen base and a hit chased Spartan starter Pat Boyle from the hill after a solid outing up until that point.

Catcher Justin Morehart, facing new Spartan hurler Jacob Rosales, crushed a two-run double on an 0-2 count which began the four-run fifth inning for the Lions as the home team earned the first win of the day.

Game two was the polar opposite as Donnie Lovelady went to work on the mound. The senior pitched six solid innings and allowed just one run with six strikeouts on the day.

Missouri Baptist trailed briefly in game two after the Lions posted a run in the second. The Spartans responded with a three-run third inning and was off to the races.

Second baseman Aaron Collazo was outstanding as the Spartan leadoff man once again. The senior collected a three-hit game and went 3-4 at the plate with two RBI and two runs scored. Culver Plant and Nate Green had two hits a piece as the top of the Spartan order continues to impress in the early stages of 2017.

"It was a great response after getting shut down by a great pitching performance in game one," said Head Coach Eddie Uschold. "Donnie (Lovelady) set the tempo and the offense responded."

Missouri Baptist will finish its work in Tennessee on Saturday with another, seven-inning double-dip scheduled. First pitch of game one is scheduled for 11:00 a.m. CDT.
