Box Score ST. LOUIS – [GAME 1 BOX] [GAME 2 BOX] It just took two games for Missouri Baptist's Michael Syrett to go 2-0 on the season as a starter. The Spartan hurler tossed six innings and allowed just one run in a 4-1 opening game win on Saturday as the team from St. Louis went 1-1 on the day against Bryan College (Tenn.).
Missouri Baptist (5-3) looked nearly unbeatable all day as Syrett set the tone. The senior lefty was dominant for the second consecutive outing as he kept a hard hitting Bryan team off balance in game one. Though he only recorded one strikeout, his infield picked him up. The Spartans recorded 10 ground outs in the game.
The Spartans did the majority of their damage in the second inning. Chad Ramsey led off with a single and was the first of four hits for Missouri Baptist. Those hits, along with a throwing error helped the visitors to a three-run inning on the way to a 4-1 win.
Missouri Baptist dropped game two 12-11 in the biggest slugfest of 2017 thus far as a late comeback bid fell just short.
Bryan took a quick 4-0 lead after one inning and piled-on the runs for the entire game. The Lions led 12-5 heading into the sixth inning when the Spartans dropped a six spot on the board and cut the deficit to one at 12-11, but that was where the comeback halted.
Eight of the nine Spartan starters in game two recorded a hit, while Aaron Collazo and Nate Green collected a two-hit game.
Missouri Baptist will head back to the friendly confines of Spartan Baseball Field in six days as the team will host St. Xavier (Ill.) and Clarke (Iowa) in the Clay Pfeiffer Memorial Tournament, brought to you by Raising Cane's Chicken. First pitch on Friday is scheduled for 10:00 a.m..
