Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] Missouri Baptist went cold shooting the ball out of halftime Saturday afternoon against Harris-Stowe. The Hornets took advantage, turning a two-point lead into a 77-52 win in the final 20 minutes.
Jared White had the hot hand for MBU (15-13, 9-11). The senior guard scored a team-high 22 points on 9-of-21 shooting. 14 of the 22 came in the first half.
The first half went back-and-forth, with the team's trading buckets and leads throughout. Harris-Stowe (14-12, 12-8) went up seven with 2:13 remaining, but MBU made a late run. A Pablo Hernandez 3-pointer and a bucket from White gave the Spartans five unanswered points right before halftime.
Harris-Stowe didn't wait long to take 31-29 halftime score to double digits. Missouri Baptist shot just 19.4 percent in the second half (6-of-31) and to make matters worse, the Hornets trended in the opposite direction, hitting 51.6 percent of their shots after halftime.
The cold shooting and strong Hornet defense hurt MBU's chances to get back in the game. A Malik Wineglass bucket put the Hornets up 10, 44-34 with 15:01 left and they'd sustain the double-digit lead the rest of the way.
Wineglass notched a double-double and Craig Davila Jr. led the Hornets with 21 points on a perfect 8-of-8 shooting. Johnny Benson and David Gabrovsek each finished with seven points for MBU.
Will Harrington registered three assists and became the All-Time Assist leader in MBU history. The senior passed the mark earlier this week after a review of the stats credited him with two more assists against Hannibal-LaGrange. The previous record of 341 was held by Antonio Mason.
The Spartans will look to rebound on Thursday when they hit the road to face Williams Baptist. MBU can clinch a spot in the AMC Tournament with a win. Tip is set for 7:30 pm.
