Box Score ST. LOUIS – [BOX SCORE] For the second consecutive week, Mailik Jones put together an impressive start. The junior from Atlanta fanned four Missouri Valley College batters and held his opponents to just two unearned runs in a 9-2 win for Missouri Baptist Baseball on Tuesday in Marshall, Mo.
Missouri Baptist (18-9, 10-4 AMC) continued its torrid hitting pace in the game as the visiting squad collected nine runs on nine hits.
After both teams were held scoreless in the first inning, the Spartans put a three-spot on the board in the second and never trailed throughout the contest. John Hagan reached on a walk and came around to score on a passed ball to make it 1-0. Austin Rieman advance to third on the play and scored on an RBI single to make it 2-0 before Keck later scored on another passed ball. The Ottumwa, Iowa native collected three hits on the day and led the offense with two runs scored and three stolen bases.
The Spartans allowed two unearned runs in the bottom of the third, but that was the extent of the damage in the game.
Culver Plant's lone hit on the day was a two RBI double in the sixth inning with was one of three multi-run innings for the visiting Spartans.
Missouri Baptist sent six pitchers to the hill on the day. Anthony Cosme tossed two scoreless innings with three strikeouts and allowed just one hit. Both Robby Brewster and Jacob Rosales tossed scoreless, one-hit innings before Nick Vichio and Nick Hynes split the ninth to complete the game.
The win was the sixth in a row for the Spartans, as the team will head into a clash for the top spot in the American Midwest Conference over the weekend with Columbia (Mo.) College.
