Box Score LEWISTON, Idaho – [BOX SCORE] What makes Faulkner (Ala.) so dangerous is how effortless they make it look. The Eagles received a solid start from Israel Fuentes, who earned his 12th win of the season, and made quick work of Missouri Baptist, 16-2, on Monday in the 2017 Avista-NAIA World Series.
Missouri Baptist (45-15) dug itself into a hole in the first and was never able to recover. Faulkner posted five runs in the first, as that inning proved to be the difference.
Pat Boyle got the nod on the hill and ran into trouble from the outset. The lefty allowed Tra'mayne Holmes a free pass to lead off the game, which set the tone for the remainder of the inning. John Price followed with a single before T.J. Condon doubled-in the first run of the game to make it 1-0.
A wild pitch scored Price before Ryan Rosa put an exclamation point on things. The junior deposited the first home run of the game into the seats in left field to extend the lead to 5-0.
Faulkner added to its lead with a big fifth inning. The Eagles plated eight more runs to make it an 11-0 lead and ran away with the game to roll to a 2-0 record in the World Series.
John Hagan led the Spartans on the day by going 2-4 at the plate with a home run in the eighth. On the whole, it was a tough day at the plate for the navy and white while the Eagles continued on their torrid pace they began back in the Southern States Athletic Conference Tournament.
Missouri Baptist will drop to the elimination bracket and will play William Carey (Miss.) on Tuesday. The loser will see its season end while the winner will advance to play on Wednesday. The game time is to be determined.
